COMMUNITY RESEARCH

There is an urgent need for research in all areas of deaf communities globally, from education to employment to accessibility and community engagement. The amount of information on key issues that impact deaf people’s lives is scarce and often undertaken. Scientific research is a critical tool to gain the knowledge needed for creating and developing effective approaches to deaf communities’ challenges.

An important aspect for designing customized strategies and sustainable solutions for our communities is to recognize deaf people’s unique needs, and respond to their priorities and concerns.

Our Approach

EDCI aims to close the many gaps in research through seven key areas: demographic data, education, unemployment, accessibility, health, civic and community engagementWorking in partnerships with local deaf organizations and educational institutions, EDCI conducts evidence-based research. This “local needs” approach empowers local deaf communities to build the knowledge and the capacity required for creating sustainable solutions they need.
